The Central Fund for garment workers, formed under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, is all set to disburse Taka 21.65 crore as part of the share of payments to 3,428 workers, who are employed in the 100 per cent export-oriented garment sector of Bangladesh.
According to reports, among the listed beneficiaries, 2040 workers of the BGMEA and the BKMEA will be given medical assistance of Taka 5, 68, 16,000 even as 495 workers of BGMEA and 241 workers of BKMEA will be given assistance of Taka 14, 66, 50,000 due to death and permanent disability.
Reports further added the list of beneficiaries and funds were approved at the 18th board meeting of the Central Fund held recently, chaired by State Minister Monnujan Sufian while adding the purpose of the fund is to compensate families of those who died during their job, provide medical treatment to injured workers and to reward meritorious children of apparel workers.
