
Textile products and textile industry are an important contributor to the economy of Indonesia – the world’s fourth most populated country, which has emerged as an attractive market for textiles and clothing.
The Indonesian Government is committed to make this labour-intensive and export-oriented industry competent enough to compete at the global level.
“Textile industry can also become a social security network as it provides a big number of jobs as around 3 million people are employed in this sector,” said Industry Minister of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto.
At least RP 7.54 trillion investments were made in textile and textile products in 2016. The industry also gives the country US $ 11.87 billion in foreign exchange reserves.

Indonesia is ranked among the top ten largest textile producing countries. The textile and garment industry is one of Indonesia’s oldest industries. The Indonesian Government is aimed to increase the nation’s value of exported textiles and garments to US $ 75 billion by the year 2030, implying that this industry would contribute around 5 per cent to global exports.
