Indian Garment and Textile Industry is renowned for its intricate and vibrant embroideries. Providing a quality embroidery threads, which have to meet various stringent parameters, has been the objective of Bangalore based Surya Super Threads Pvt. Ltd. since more than two decades. With a new manufacturing facility shortly commencing in the outskirts of Bangalore, the company aims to support the Garment Industry by striving to provide excellent quality embroidery thread.
A pioneer in the field of embroidery threads, Surya Super Threads, setup in the year 1987 is one of the leading manufacturer and supplier of viscose and polyester embroidery threads. With a setup that helps the company do everything from yarn manufacturing to colour matching and final packaging in-house, the company’s current production capacity is 180 tonnes per annum. Trial productions are set to start at the new plant, which has a production capacity of 600 tonnes per annum. The speciality of the new plant is that all operations are integrated under a single roof for close monitoring of all stages of production to ensure the best quality.
About 80 per cent of the garment and silk exporters based in Bangalore are esteemed clients of the company. The company also produces quality threads for the domestic market which is sold by a well-established dealer network throughout India. Though threads imported from China are a challenge to counter, “We provide excellent quality, customized and accurate colour matching, and actual quantity required at short notice. This makes us dependable suppliers to fulfil the exporters’ timely requirement,” says Sunil K. Dalwani, Director, Surya Super Threads.
Being focused on changing trends has always given Surya Super Threads an edge over their competitors. The company’s special focus on producing threads with high tenacity when the market shifted from normal embroidery machines to the high paced computerized embroidery machines, has kept them ahead of others in the industry.
To provide a high level of satisfaction to its customers, the company works with a client-oriented approach offering a wide range of colours in two formats for the clients to choose from. First is the standard range of 999 shades offered from pre-dyed stock as per their shade card. Secondly, they also offer customized shades which are “Dyed To Match” (DTM) to meet the exact requirements of the customers at a small premium. “Though we charge a small premium for DTM shades and the minimum quantity order size is only 20 boxes, the colours are checked in the lab to reach the exact colour accuracy level required by the client,” elaborated Sunil. The company also maintains a large colour database of more than 3600 shades of actually produced batches that assist DTM buyers to select their shade or to get repeated batches of approved shades previously used by them in their embroideries.
Having a product range that mainly includes viscose and polyester threads, the company now plans to look into other yarn bases as well, and is planning to expand its range to produce embroidery yarns of all types from the basic cotton yarn to silk and metallic yarns. Talking about their product range and the working procedures of the company, Sunil added, “Though we will make the required additions and variations in our products with changing times, the core production will remain to be embroidery threads only, which is healthy for our business as I personally believe in maintaining long-term relations with our clients.”
According to Sunil the slow market condition is a boon, as it promotes only healthy competition and pushes companies to grow in all aspects. “Though threads are one of the most competitive products in the industry, I believe, competition is what helps the serious players grow as it is only when the competition gets tough that the players who are not efficient enough leave the field. This eliminates unnecessary competitors in the market,” he argues.
Surya Super Threads went on to adopt ISO 9001-2000 standards since the year 2004, and expanded to a larger and more professional level with the aim to produce international quality products. “Changing fashion trends over the last two years have given importance to printing. However, we are optimistic that embroideries will soon be back in demand and are hoping to see an upswing in overall demand for embroidery thread. Companies providing good quality and standardized products will always grow in the industry and will survive all the market fluctuations,” concludes Sunil, who is looking forward to promising times ahead.
