Known for T-shirts, which form the mainstay of the company’s produce, Dennison Attires Limited, a six-year–old Narayanganj-based knitted fabric and garment manufacturing company (offering wide-range of knitted products in men’s, ladies’ and kids’ sections, including polo shirts, sports shirts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, boxers, tank tops, trousers and many more), has of late started producing lingerie as well. “We started lingerie just six months back,” maintains Syedul Hoque, Managing Director of the company, who has appointed two Filipino professionals – experts in this product category, to help Dennison out in its new endeavour, for which the company has dedicated a total of 150 machines, exclusively.
Having started lingerie manufacturing just six months back, Dennison Attires Limited has dedicated a total of 150 machines exclusively for the product category and hired two Filipino experts and an in-house Industrial Engineer to help it in its endeavour.
Started in partnership with a friend in 2009, Syedul decided to part ways with his collaborator to take over the reins of the company fully and independently in 2011 and built upon a clientele over the years which include Cotton On Cotton (from Australia), LPP SA (from Poland), Sonae (from Portugal), Jomo BV (from Netherland), apart from many others. Besides the Filipino expats, Dennison also has an in-house Industrial Engineer to ensure smooth sailing in lingerie manufacturing. “Even our client Delta (from Philippines), is helping us by providing trainings to hone the efficiency levels of the workers in lingerie making,” avers Syedul, who accepts that Dennison is yet to get all the required machines for lingerie manufacturing, and guaranteed it will keep on adding to its existing strengths, slowly but surely. “We are a small manufacturing unit but have plans to make bonded lingerie in future and are working towards the same in terms of infrastructure and expertise,” observed an optimistic Syedul, who started operations with just 60 sewing machines but upgraded the capacity to 450 sewing machines over the years, and is planning to add 140 more soon. The company also has a total of 7 knitting machines.

Keeping his future plans in perspective, Syedul has procured a piece of land in the Narayanganj area to build a fully compliant manufacturing unit to increase his production capacities. “The present unit is a rented one; we have plans for a green factory but it will take some time, at least another 5-7 years,” stated Syedul, observing that socks is one such product category for which there’s no need to pursue new buyers initially. “We can start by supplying to our existing clientele and build upon the customer base gradually over the course of time,” maintained Syedul, who had plans for producing more of valueadded products, but had to take a backseat for the time being due to scarce availability of locally-produced accessories (vital for making such products) and partly to cover the costs involved in operating a small-scale manufacturing unit like Dennison, for which the owner has to depend on the volumes. Upbeat about the future, Syedul believes that things are bound to change for better.
