Activewear brand, TechnoSport will invest Rs 4.5 crore over three years to establish the TechnoSport Center for Research and Entrepreneurship in Sports Textile (T-CREST) in collaboration with IIT Delhi.
The centre, to be housed at IIT Delhiβs Sonipat campus, will focus on research, prototyping and developing sport-specific products based on athlete requirements. It will initially cover endurance running, badminton, cricket, volleyball and soccer, with a focus on athletes competing at national and international levels.
T-CREST, a cybersecurity and IT modernization firm, will also support startups working on sports-textile solutions, with TechnoSport potentially providing seed funding of up to Rs 20 lakh. Startups may also access the companyβs manufacturing, retail, distribution and online infrastructure for product development and commercialisation.
The initiative comes as TechnoSport expands its manufacturing and R&D capabilities. The company currently produces more than 1 lakh garments a day and expects to manufacture around 35 million garments this year. It has recorded around 40% year-on-year growth over the past four to five years.
Sunil Jhunjhunwala, co-founder and managing director, TechnoSport stated that βOur Rs 4.5 crore commitment is about building the science, capabilities and talent required to develop high-performance products in India that can stand alongside the best globally.β
