Fashion leaders like Stella McCartney, Marzotto Wool Manufacturing, and Fashion for Good are among 15 new members joining the BioCircular Materials Alliance. The BioCircular Materials Alliance has announced a new grant program to support innovation in biocircular materials and technologies.
This industry consortium, formed in 2024 by Spiber and Kering, aims to revolutionise the fashion industry by transforming bio-based waste into valuable materials. This program will provide financial resources and mentorship to early-stage companies and research institutions developing solutions that align with the Alliance’s mission.
The grant will be focusing on several aspects including the development of novel bio-based materials from textile waste, agricultural residues, or forestry byproducts, innovation in biomanufacturing techniques like Metabolic Recycling, creation of efficient and scalable biocircular recycling systems and designing and developing biocircular fashion products.
The BioCircular Materials Alliance is rapidly gaining traction, with its membership now at 22 organisations. This diverse group brings together expertise across the fashion value chain, fostering collaboration and accelerating progress towards a circular bioeconomy.
Stella McCartney emphasises the transformative potential of the Alliance’s work, highlighting the power of collaboration in driving societal change. Maria Arroyo i Bacete of Fashion for Good reiterates their commitment to contributing expertise and collaborating with partners like Kering.
The BioCircular Materials Alliance’s grant program is expected to be launched in mid-2025. The initiative underscores the Alliance’s commitment to not only fostering collaboration but also actively supporting the development and implementation of biocircular solutions across the fashion industry.
