Arcadia Group, which owns Topshop and Topman amongst others, in a reversal, has agreed to pay full salaries to its head office staff facing redundancy.
This comes in the wake of a recent report wherein the British fashion giant had said that it would be paying its staff only 50 per cent of their pay.
Further on this, the company spokesperson said that the action was related to about 300 redundancies in Group’s head office.
Expressing apologies to all the affected individuals, the company said in a statement said that it had recently implemented the above policy for staff working their notice on furlough to receive their furlough pay and not full pay.
While admitting that the Group had got its decision wrong, the statement said that Board has now made amendments to the policy to ensure all the people get their full salary.
The statement also said that the staff will be informed of the update immediately.
The Unite Union, which had initially threated to take legal action over the issue, has welcomed the new decision and called it an ‘amazing victory’.
However, Debbie McSweeney, Regional Officer, Unite Union, said that Unite will fully examine the statement released by Arcadia before withdrawing the legal action.
Arcadia Group, which also owns Evans, Burton and Dorothy Perkins, is known majorly for apparels, accessories and shoes.
