Puma will be celebrating its 75th anniversary by expanding its presence in Web3 and launching 10,000 piece collection of PFP (profile picture) NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
The upcoming series will feature its iconic mascot ‘Super PUMA’, which initially appeared as a protagonist of comic books in the 1970s. Puma’s brand-new series of avatars will highlight the brand’s most historic sports moments over the last 75 years.
Puma hopes to scale its Web3 presence with the launch of these NFTs and envisions its fans using the iconic green mascot as their profile picture on their social media accounts, something that is quite popular as a Web3 trend.
The new NFT collection comes a year after Puma registered Puma.eth which is the brand’s ENS (Ethereum Name Service) domain to further cement its presence on the Web3 platform.
In an official news release, Puma Chief Brand Officer Adam Petrick said, “Puma’s growing Web3 community played an important role in the launch of this new project. We listened to what our community wanted, and the Super PUMA PFP NFT is the result of that. It’s a great project to kick off our 75th anniversary as an expression of our brand mantra – Forever Faster – leaning on our history and heritage to push sports and culture forward through design and innovation.”
This new collection of NFTS will feature 10,000 Super PUMA NFTs in total, a portion of which are scheduled to be airdropped to holders of Nitro Collection NFTs.
4,000 Super PUMA NFTs will be sold publicly outside of the Nitro airdrop and another 2,000 NFTs will be allotted for Puma’s partnership with 10KTF, an online shop in the virtual city of ‘New Tokyo’.
Airdrops for Nitro holders will begin in late February, with the public sale to follow shortly after.
