Performance basketball shoes, running silhouettes and slim sneaker styles are defining the global resale landscape in 2025, according to new data released by StockX.
The resale platform’s latest report, Big Facts: 2025 Trends, highlights the products, brands and subcultures driving consumer behaviour this year, while offering insights into the trends expected to shape the secondary market in 2026.
The report revealed that Asics remains a standout performer, with its Gel-1130 in Black/Pure Silver emerging as StockX’s best-selling sneaker of 2025. Other performance-oriented brands also recorded significant gains, including Saucony (+38%), Mizuno (+148%) and Brooks (+1,508%).
In the basketball category, innovation and athlete partnerships continue to fuel momentum. Nike’s Ja 3 was identified as the brand’s top new model of the year, followed by A’ja Wilson’s A’One, while Converse saw its strongest month on StockX since 2022, propelled by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Shai 001. The Nike Kobe 6 Protro retained its position as the best-selling basketball silhouette overall, with sales more than doubling from 2024.
Meanwhile, the slim sneaker trend gained significant traction. The New Balance 204L became the brand’s top new model, while Nike’s Total 90 3 and Adidas’ Samba Jane ranked among the year’s leading sellers. Ballet- and Mary Jane–inspired designs also grew in popularity, with Adidas’ Bad Bunny–endorsed Ballerina and the Nike Air Rift seeing year-on-year sales growth ahead of an upcoming 2026 Skims collaboration.
Beyond footwear, demand for nostalgia-fuelled collectibles surged, led by Pop Mart’s Labubu, which spearheaded the rise of the “ugly-cute” trend. Other fast-growing collectibles included Crybaby (+21%), Hacipupu (+281%) and Skullpanda (+132%).
Greg Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer at StockX, said that the platform’s data provided “a front-row seat to global shifts in taste and culture.” He noted that the rising popularity of performance basketball models, the enduring appeal of runner-inspired designs and the resurgence of slim silhouettes reflect “the ways people are expressing themselves through what they wear and collect.”
Schwartz added that the report underscored “how rapidly new communities are forming — whether around digital cameras, Pokémon trading cards, or collectibles like Labubu,” emphasising that customer energy and passion continue to drive future market trends.
