Data and analytics specialist GlobalData has predicted that UK consumers will spend £ 1.7 billion in the lead-up to Mother’s Day and on the day itself. The company believes spending will rise by only 1.1 per cent, despite inflation having been higher than that for the past year.
More than half of customers plan to buy something to commemorate the occasion, according to the firm, “though price remains a main concern.”
“Shoppers are paying more for less” due to inflation is a problem that was also brought up during the most recent Valentine’s Day shopping season.
According to GlobalData, 41 per cent of shoppers who plan to buy something for Mother’s Day have already done so or plan to do so for less than £ 20. Mother’s Day apparel purchases will be made by 19 per cent of consumers, thus “retailers will need to cater to those looking to cut back by offering a range of price points.”
