
Sales of over Rs 2 crore (US $ 2,38,271) were recorded at the Khadi Bhawan, the flagship store of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), located in Connaught Place, New Delhi, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October.
According to KVIC, this represents the highest sales ever documented on a single day in the history of the Khadi and Village Industry.
These products include cotton khadi worth Rs 67.32 lakh (US $ 80,187), silk khadi worth Rs 44.75 lakh (US $ 53,303), woollen khadi worth Rs 7.61 lakh (US $ 9,061), poly khadi worth Rs 1.87 lakh (US $ 2,227), readymade khadi worth Rs 65.09 lakh (US $ 77,528), village industry products worth Rs 12.29 lakh (US $ 14,637) and handicraft products worth Rs 2.44 lakh (US $ 2,906).
Manoj Kumar, the chairman of KVIC, attributed the record sales to the appeal made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to purchase “Made in India” products during the festive season and the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission reported an annual turnover of over Rs. 1.5 lakh crore during the fiscal year 2024.
