
GU, a Uniqlo sister brand offering fun and fashionable apparel at great value prices, owned by the Japanese fast-fashion company Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., has announced the opening of its first flagship store in South Korea, a fashion-conscious country, this fall.
The upcoming flagship, to be spread in floor area of 1,400 square metres, will be located in Lotte World Mall, located in Jamsil, Seoul.
“It is a thrilling experience to launch GU store in Korea,” stated Yunoki Osamu, Chief Executive Officer, GU in a statement issued by the company. A wide range of items for women, men and kids by GU will be carried here. Korean customers will enjoy a unique shopping space and experience at the upcoming GU store.
According to Osamu, launching GU in South Korea is a big step for the company.
GU is hopeful of repeating the success of Uniqlo which opened its first store in Seoul in September 2005 and now operates a network of 183 stores across the country.
GU currently operates a total of 358 stores works on ‘YOUR FREEDOM’ concept. The retailer intends to expand its footprint in the country. It is also considering to increase its international presence by adding 14 to 50 stores.
The fashion retailer is determined to revolutionise operations and transform GU into a unique fast-moving brand from Japan with targeted sales of 1 trillion yen.
The brand opened its first overseas store in Sanghai, one of the world’s most exciting cities, in 2013, seven years after the birth of the GU brand in Japan.
