
Walmart-backed e-commerce giant Flipkart has announced that it has hired over 50,000 new employees to keep up with the growing demand and workload of the upcoming Big Billion Days sale.
The workers will be employed across departments like supply chain, logistics and customer support teams.
However, some will be given indirect jobs which have been increased to 6.5 lakh – An increase of 30 per cent over the last year in an effort to generate more employment and manage the workload.
The sale, which is set to take place from 29 September to 4 October, has generated lakhs of direct and indirect employment opportunities ranging from being part of the supply chain as Flipkart Wishmasters, personnel in warehouses, mother hubs and delivery hubs to being trained to handle various devices like scanners and PoS machines.
Other indirect jobs are being created through third-party vendors for security, transport, etc., while some are being provided training for customer service, delivery and installation.
This sale will also enable the 1.35 lakh artisans that have become a part of Flipkart’s Samarth initiative to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the platform.
Flipkart has conducted its hiring and training process to provide job opportunities to locals while upskilling them, which is in accordance with the National Skill Development Mission.
