
As per the projections of the think-tank and research organisation, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), the e-commerce market in Bangladesh is likely to reach US $ 10.5 billion value in 2026, growing by US $ 4 billion in four years even as the market stood at US $ 6.6 billion at the end of 2022.
Reports underlined this while adding the private research organisation unveiled the data at a dialogue titled, ‘Taxing the Digital Economy: Trade-Offs and Opportunities’, held in Dhaka recently and organised by the European Union and the CPD.
Taking part in the discussion, the speakers reportedly highlighted the expansion of digital companies as well as tax collection from the sector even as they stated tax collection was yet to reach the target notwithstanding the expansion of the digital economy while also adding easing of the tax payment method will bring a good result.
They also reportedly added the so-called harassment must come to an end even if initiatives must be undertaken to collect tax from foreign entities like Amazon, Facebook, Google, etc.
