Keeping in line with its extended sustainability focus, global luxury fashion brand Burberry has launched a collection featuring 26 pieces from its Spring/Summer 2020 collection.
Titled ‘ReBurberry’, the collection is crafted using circular materials and sustainable fabrics.
Featuring a mix of menswear and womenswear, as well as a range of sustainable accessories, the edit includes the classic Burberry trench, a series of car coats, Cannon belt packs and backpacks.
The outerwear essentials are fashioned out of ECONYL® – a recycled nylon yarn made from regenerated fishing nets, fabric scraps, industrial plastic and other nylon waste.
Details such as a series of fresh prints and 3D appliqué feature over garments and accessories, whilst a selection of eyewear utilises a pioneering bio-based acetate created using renewable energy.
Furthermore, Burberry donates excess leftover fabric from the collection to Progetto Quid – a women-led, non-profit Italian brand that employees disadvantaged people.
The British luxury label has also announced the global roll-out of sustainability labelling that will run across all of its key product categories. This redesigned packaging and labelling allows customers to scan Burberry’s environmental and social credentials for every garment they buy.
The new signature pistachio-coloured labels that resemble oak paper, are made with a minimum of 40 per cent upcycled coffee cups that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill. It is reusable, fully recyclable and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Each label details how the garment meets a range of criteria described as “positive attributes.” Different attributes include the amount of organic cotton or recycled natural fibres used in producing the particular garment, delivery against carbon emissions standards and social initiatives for its workers. Currently, two-thirds of Burberry products meet one of these criteria, with the label hoping all products to achieve the criterion be the year 2022.
The “ReBurberry” collection is now available for purchase on the brand’s official web store.
