Dutch fashion brand Scotch & Soda has been acquired by American brand management company Bluestar Alliance for an undisclosed amount.
Bluestar plans to attract new shoppers to the label while allowing for the continuation of the brand and its products across key markets, including the Netherlands. However, some jobs will be lost, although full details are yet to be revealed.
Scotch & Soda will join Bluestar’s portfolio which includes Hurley, Bebe and Tahari, among others.
Bluestar CEO Joseph Gabbay sees Scotch & Soda as a unique fit and adds, “It is widely known for its roots in Amsterdam and celebrating self-expression with a modern twist on timeless fashion pieces.”
Its COO Ralph Gindi adds, “The niche brand sits on its own and attracts a younger fashion-conscious consumer who appreciates fine craftsmanship and attention to detail. Our goal is to continue Scotch & Soda’s luxury retail distribution strategy, while also introducing the brand to more trendsetters, especially those looking to express their personality through their clothing”.
Scotch & Soda, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this month citing cash flow issues that started during the pandemic, is sold via 253 standalone stores worldwide and online in over 70 countries.
