The revenues from apparel sales in Japanese department stores to kick off 2021 are not encouraging. The total revenues valued 93,659 million yen (US $ 878.55 million) during January ‘21, declining 39.80 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
Clothing contributed 28.70 per cent in total revenues earned by the Japanese department stores in the month of January.
According to the latest released data by Japan Department Stores Association (JDSA), the revenues earned by all three main categories – menswear, womenswear and kidswear – were down drastically.
The revenues in women clothing dropped by 40.50 per cent in January ’21 on Y-o-Y basis to clock 60,200.82 million yen (US $ 564.70 million).
Menswear, sharing 6.30 per cent in total retail sales, accommodated 20,589.78 million yen (US $ 193.14 million) revenues in the first month of 2021, dropping massively by 40.50 per cent from January ’20.
On the other hand, kidswear witnessed 38.20 per cent decline on yearly basis to earn 6,136.63 million yen (US $ 57.56 million) revenues. All other types of clothing noted 26.50 per cent decline on yearly basis and valued 6,741.77 million yen (US $ 63.24 million) in January ’21.
