Amazon has recently announced that it is planning to slim down the company by laying off more than 18,000 employees, and the process will continue till next year.
This decision will most likely affect many departments, including the human resources department. Although, employees working on an hourly basis won’t be affected by this.
“Companies that last a long time go through different phases. They’re not in heavy people expansion mode every year,” said Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon. Jassy also expressed deep concern towards the affected employees and did not underestimate the change this might bring to their lives.
The company boomed during the pandemic when everybody relied on online shopping, hence it did rapid hiring.
Now, due to inflation and a gradual decline, the company is considering to go a step back, with the stock falling around 50 per cent last year.
