E-commerce major Amazon’s quick commerce arm, Amazon Now, is set to launch 100 large fulfillment centres across cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad and Mumbai, to expand its product assortment in the rapidly growing quick commerce sector.
According to Amazon, these 20,000 sq ft facilities will accommodate four to five times more products than a typical Amazon Now fulfilment centre, which currently stocks 15,000–20,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs). The expansion comes ahead of Amazon’s annual Prime Day event, set to take place in July.
The company said this will supplement the launch of 1,000 dark stores across 100 cities that Amazon announced in February.
Furthermore, as part of its commitment to invest US $15 billion in India by 2030, in April it would invest an additional US $233 million in its infrastructure and operations network in the country, according to Amazon.
According to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, Amazon Now’s orders are growing by 25% month-on-month.
Amazon’s expansion drive comes at a time when competition in quick commerce is intensifying. Its e-commerce rival, Flipkart, is also aggressively expanding its Minutes operations.
According to industry reports, Amazon Now is currently adding at least two dark stores a day and has a network of about 500 stores. At the same time, Flipkart Minutes has been adding nearly 100 stores per month since March this year and is expected to reach 1,100–1,200 stores by July 2026.
