The zero-cashier retail store of e-retail giant Amazon, the Amazon Go store, was a breakthrough in the retail world so big that it is seen as a development that can completely change the brick and mortar retail game and is now all set to expand in newer locations.
The said store indeed has no check-out, no hassle technology that allows the customers to shop for things with just a mere tap of a smartphone app. As of today, the store is there in three locations in Seattle, Washington. The first store opened to the public on January 22, 2018 and offers variety of products right from prepared foods, meal kits, limited groceries, to liquor.
On September 7, an Amazon spokesperson said that, “We plan to open Amazon Go in New York,” but did not say when.
A simple procedure leads this innovative shopping process. Shoppers simply have to scan the smartphone app of Amazon Go at the entrance points of the store. Then, cameras and sensors are responsible for real-time tracking of what they pick up from the shelves and even what they put back.
In their recent video advertisement, they showed how cutting-edge technology such as Computer Visions, deep learning algorithms, sensor fusion and just walk out technology enable this entire procedure. As soon as the customer walks out of the store, the sensors in the app give an update of the bill to the customer to be paid via pre- or post-paid methods.
The sources also talked about their expansion plans to expand to Chicago and San Francisco as well in the coming year as well.
