Bodd, an advanced manufacturing start-up based in Melbourne, Australia, has received US $ 5 million to develop its 3D body scanning technology.
The round was led by retail entrepreneurs and G-Star Founders Candice and Nick Hirons and Bodd’s CEO Tim Allison, who is also Bodd’s Executive Chairman and Founding Chairman of Virtual Gaming Worlds, was among the investors.
With this financing, Bodd will build on its existing presence in the apparel business and expand into wellness, fashion retail and pharmaceuticals in North America, while hiring additional employees for these areas.
The Melbourne-based company uses 3D scan to enhance the shopping experience of customers and brands in the apparel, uniform, gym and pharmaceutical industries. All the information needed to create a ‘body passport’ can be captured in about 60 seconds using a non-invasive scanner which is manufactured in Australia by Bosch.
With the consent of the data owner, companies can offer clothing to product recommendations and personalised health outcomes.
Bodd’s technical team spent five years developing this technology in collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology and RMIT.
“We’re thrilled to welcome our new shareholders to Bodd. Their support and expertise will be invaluable as we build the world’s leading human body data exchange, right here in Australia,” he said.
“Body data is showing incredible potential to be a force for good in the world and Bodd is well- positioned to become the global standard.”
Chris Dixon, CEO of Australian Defence Apparel (ADA), has partnered with Bodd as it looks to also service the international market.
“Bodd is instrumental in assisting ADA to deliver on our commitment to combine leading textiles and new technologies to solve apparel distribution challenges,” he said.
According to Chris, “This revolutionary contactless digital fitting technology allows for a seamless user experience, as it drastically reduces time required for fitting and kitting of defence personnel. We are excited to be rolling this out first to the New Zealand Defence Force in early 2023.”
