The International Textile Manufacturers Federation, based in Zurich, Switzerland, has released its International Textile Industry Statistics on the short-staple spinning industry’s raw material consumption and productive capacity.
The agency has evaluated earlier numbers based on a new calculating approach that covers almost all nations in the world that produce textiles.
According to estimates, there were 232 million short-staple spindles installed worldwide in 2023, and there were 9.7 million open end (OE) rotor locations installed. The number of air-jet spindles that have been installed has also increased to 637,000.
Asia continues to lag behind in capacity building, with Turkey recording the largest capacity gain outside of the region.
In 2023, the short-staple industry consumed 43 million tonnes of raw materials, a modest decrease from the 4.4 per cent decrease in raw cotton processing and the 2.9 per cent decrease in cellulosic short-staple fibres, while the 0.5 per cent gain in synthetic short-staple fibre consumption was seen.
