Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd, through its associate company Phoenix Kothari Footwear Ltd, has proposed an investment of approximately Rs 1,000 crore (US $104.79 million) to establish a non-leather footwear manufacturing facility in Mananthapuram District, Tamil Nadu.
The company intends to execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guidance, Government of Tamil Nadu, for the project. The investment is planned over a period of seven years, subject to applicable laws, statutory approvals and eligibility under prevailing government policies.
The project is part of Kothari Industrial Corporation’s broader expansion plans in Tamil Nadu, with the footwear manufacturing initiative accounting for the majority of the group’s proposed Rs 1,050-crore investment announced through two MoUs.
The proposed investment comes as India continues to attract manufacturing investments in the footwear and apparel supply chain, with non-leather footwear emerging as a segment with significant export and domestic market potential.
