
Odisha Government has claimed that it has evinced interest to invest Rs. 2,100 crore in apparel and garment industry during the ‘Make in Odisha Conclave 2022’.
Page Industries, Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail, Indo Rama Synthetics, CTM Technical Textiles, Cotton World are few of the companies that have announced investment in the state
Page Industries has committed to invest Rs. 65 crore and will provide employment to 6,000 people. Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail, which is investing Rs. 45 crore in a garment unit will provide employment to 5,000 people. CTM Technical Textiles plans to open its second unit in Odisha.
It is worth mentioning here that recently Odisha Cabinet led by CM Naveen Patnaik has approved Odisha Apparel & Technical Textiles Policy-2022. The policy includes incentives like capital investment subsidy, employment cost subsidy and market development initiative.
VS Ganesh, MD, Page Industries said that existing apparel industries were consulted while formulating this latest policy. “Incorporation of our suggestions reflects the sincerity with which this Government operates. Many of our supply partners are waiting for us to start investing here.”
Fabindia is already working with 8 GI-tagged handloom and handicraft products of Odisha. K. P. Rajendran said that the company is exploring more products to work on and also empowers the artisans through the model of community-owned companies apart from providing shareholding to the artisans and weavers.
Amit Agarwal, Chairman, CTM Technical Textiles Ltd., is of the view that Odisha has been a customer state for a decade now. The availability of high-density Polyethylene will now be a game changer in bringing investment in technical textiles in the state.
Dr. Rajasekhar Reddy, SLN Spinning Mills believes that the wide raw material base along with investor-friendly policies will only help add to the momentum of Odisha’s growth in the textile sector.
He insisted that the State Government needs to look into the provision of CETP to ease the burden on industries.
Harsh Bapna, CEO, Polyester and Spinning, Alok Industries Ltd., feels, “We need to map consumption centres in Odisha and nearby markets to cater to that will help us make Odisha the preferred Textile Hub in India.”
