Karnataka Minister for Textiles Shivananda Patil on Tuesday said he would consult Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to discuss measures aimed at boosting investment in Karnataka’s textile sector.
Speaking at a meeting of the High-Level Empowerment Committee convened to review the implementation of the state’s new Textile and Readymade Garment Policy, Patil emphasised the need to provide adequate support and incentives to entrepreneurs to encourage investment in the state.
He stated that officials in the department had been directed to prepare a comparative report on textile policies adopted in other states, including Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, detailing the concessions and benefits offered to textile entrepreneurs.
Patil noted that political instability in Bangladesh was prompting several textile industries to consider relocating their operations, with many exploring opportunities in Tamil Nadu due to its stable industrial environment. He stressed that Karnataka must identify and implement measures to attract such investors to the state instead.
The minister also drew attention to the Maharashtra government’s policy of providing subsidised electricity to the textile sector, suggesting that a similar approach could enhance Karnataka’s competitiveness. He said adopting such a model could make the state a more appealing destination for investors from Maharashtra and beyond.
