In Chennai, stakeholders from the textile, handloom, and handicraft industries met with Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh for a review meeting. The meeting was also attended by Tamil Nadu’s Minister of Commerce, Investment Promotion, and Industries, TRB Rajaa.
Singh highlighted the advantages being offered to the industry during the conference, including the PM Mudra loan to weaver artisans, the Raw Material Yarn Subsidy Scheme, and numerous Central Government programs for modernising handlooms.
Additionally, he urged for the Central and State Governments to work together to improve the livelihoods of handloom and powerloom workers and suggested that the State Government make use of the resources offered by NIFT-VisioNEXT to develop creative design and trend forecasts.
In order to increase exports, the Union Minister also stressed the necessity of developing a brand for a range of handloom and handicraft goods. Additionally, he went to Chennai to inspect the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
The Tamil Nadu government supports the establishment of a technical textile hub in the state, according to Giriraj Singh. With a budget of US $ 165.89 million, a specialised National Technical Textile Mission was established to promote technical textile education, marketing, export promotion, and research and development.
Speaking to reporters at NIFT in Chennai, Giriraj Singh stated, “Our department’s goal is to increase the textile industry’s market size from US $ 176 billion to US $ 350 billion by 2030.”
“The number of workers in the textile industry would rise from 4.6 crore to 6 crore by 2030. In order to meet this need, the ministry is talking with farmers and businesses about getting more fabric, fibre, and yarn,” the minister stated. He claimed that the labour availability in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand is the reason the sector is expanding.
T R B Rajaa stated on social media that he has asked Giriraj Singh to establish small textile parks in SIPCOT industrial zones throughout the state. According to Rajaa, he also asked for assistance in order to grow the textile sector in areas such as Virudhunagar, Karur, Tirupur, Salem, Erode, and Nagapattinam.
