
In his inaugural address at the 71st edition of the India International Garment Fair (IIGF), Union Minister for Textiles, Giriraj Singh emphasised that developing world-class manufacturing facilities is a must for realising the Prime Minister’s vision of “Make in India” with “Zero Effect; Zero Defect” at each level of the value chain.
Along with encouraging industry collaboration and the use of the ‘hub and spoke’ approach to boost domestic production, he also emphasised the significance of building Indian brands. In order to establish parks that meet international standards, the ministry is also prepared to bring the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) back to life.
He stated that, “Today, India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world with a GDP growth rate of 7.2 per cent and is expected to be 3rd largest economy by 2027-28.”
He went on to say that the US $ 165 billion Indian apparel and textile business needs to grow to US $ 350 billion, a goal that has been set with industry approval. By 2030, he asked the industry to reach US $ 50 billion. He said that the Prime Minister has created a plan to advance geotextiles and technical fibres, which offer a plethora of opportunities for development.
In order to increase domestic manufacturing and exports, Giriraj Singh also announced the extension of the Rs 10,000 crore PLI project to the garment industry. He also underlined that our priorities will be to promote green textiles and renovate textile parks.
