Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa visited the Udyog Nagar Industrial Area and held extensive discussions with industrialists, factory owners, workers and representatives of the Industrial Area Society to review long-standing infrastructure challenges affecting businesses in the region.
Udyog Nagar is a mixed industrial estate in West Delhi that houses a significant number of garment, textile, footwear and allied manufacturing units alongside engineering and light industrial businesses. The cluster produces ready-made garments, knitted fabrics, textile accessories, footwear and packaging materials, supporting both domestic and export-oriented supply chains.
During the visit, the Minister assessed issues including waterlogging, drainage bottlenecks, poor road conditions, encroachments and operational concerns raised by industrial units.
Sirsa said the Delhi Government is committed to delivering a permanent solution to the waterlogging problems faced by industries in the area while promoting ease of doing business through improved industrial infrastructure. He announced that work on internal roads and stormwater drains within the Udyog Nagar Industrial Area will commence shortly.
The Minister further stated that road development projects to be undertaken by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) are expected to begin soon, significantly improving connectivity and infrastructure across the industrial cluster.
Highlighting the government’s focus on industrial development, Sirsa said infrastructure projects worth approximately Rs. 45 crore (US $4.72 million) are currently being undertaken in the area. He stated that the Delhi Government remains fully committed to upgrading industrial infrastructure and ensuring that internal roads, stormwater drains and sewage connectivity are completed on priority. Sirsa added that he would personally monitor the progress of the projects to ensure that industrial units receive the facilities required for efficient operations.
Responding to concerns raised by industrialists regarding tubewells and borewells, the Minister clarified that legitimate tubewell and borewell connections would not be affected. He noted that enforcement actions are being directed only at identified polluting industries in accordance with environmental regulations.
The infrastructure upgrade is expected to address several operational challenges faced by businesses in Udyog Nagar and strengthen the area’s attractiveness as a manufacturing and industrial hub within the National Capital Region.
