China-based joint venture BSK Fashion Bags plans to invest more than US $ 6 million to build a plant in Cumilla EPZ that will initially employ 1,000 people.
According to a news release, Jeroen Herms, co-founder and CEO of BSK Fashion Bags, recently showed his interest in the position during a courtesy call to Israt Ara, the consul general of Bangladesh in Hong Kong.
BSK Fashion Bags is a trading firm established in China that produces high-end leather products and footwear. It was founded in 2011.
Consul General Israt Ara outlined the numerous incentives that the Bangladeshi Government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is offering to attract international investors in promising industries during the meeting.
She briefed the BSK Fashion Bags CEO about different aspects of trade and investment opportunities in Bangladesh, political stability, infrastructural development, comparative benefits in the manufacturing sector and a pool of young workforce.
Herms expressed appreciation for Bangladesh’s current socioeconomic progress while also stating that, given Bangladesh’s comparative advantages in international trade, they would like to relocate their main office from Guangzhou, China, to Bangladesh.
He also complimented his company’s young Bangladeshi employees on their abilities and talent.
For his business to run smoothly in Bangladesh, Herms requested assistance from both the Consulate and the Bangladeshi government.
Currently, BSK produces more than three million bags a year at its production facilities in China and Myanmar. This trading company is located in Guangzhou and focuses in bags and accessories. 2011 saw BSK become the first bag factory to be owned 100 per cent.
