
President of the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) and Chairman of K.M. Knitwear Private Limited, K.M. Subramanian and Naren Goenka, Owner (Chairman Bharat Tex), Texport Industries have been appointed as Members of the Board of Trade, the country’s apex trade advisory body according to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
Texport Industries is one of India’s leading apparel manufacturers and exporters, producing over 1.5 to 2 million woven and knitted garments monthly for global brands in the US and Europe. The company specialises in men’s, women’s, and children’s apparel. Goenka is also a former chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), India’s official body of garment exporters.
The Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) is the apex body for cotton knitwear exporters in Tirupur. It represents over 1,300 manufacturing and exporting units, driving around 90% of India’s cotton knitwear exports and providing crucial industry advocacy. K.M. Knitwear Private Limited is a leading, fully vertically integrated apparel manufacturer and garment exporter based in Tirupur.
Dr. A. Sakthivel, Chairman of the AEPC and Honorary Chairman of the TEA, expressed confidence that with the induction of K.M. Subramanian into this high-level trade advisory body, the voice of the Tirupur knitwear export sector is expected to gain even stronger representation in national trade policy deliberations and decision-making processes.
CS Setty, Chairman, SBI; Virat Bhatia, MD, Apple India; Anish Shah, MD, Mahindra & Mahindra; Shailesh Chandra, President SIAM and MD&CEO, Tata Motors are some of the other appointed Members of the Board of Trade.
The Board of Trade plays a pivotal role in advising the Central Government on matters relating to trade development and export promotion. The Board comprises 40 distinguished members representing various industrial and export sectors across the country.
