Claire Miles, head of women’s brands and own label at British department store group John Lewis, has left the company after more than three and a half years in the role, the retailer confirmed on Friday.
Miles announced her departure in a post on professional networking platform LinkedIn, describing her tenure at the retailer as “deeply rewarding”. According to her post, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to John Lewis’s ongoing transformation and to work with colleagues committed to quality and customer service. She also cited recent strategic collaborations with fashion labels such as Awake Mode and Rejina Pyo — initiatives aimed at strengthening the store’s premium fashion offering — as among the highlights of her time in the role.
Miles joined John Lewis during a challenging period for the retailer, which recorded a loss in the first half of the financial year 2022 and subsequently embarked on a broad turnaround strategy. Her departure comes amid a period of significant executive movement within the John Lewis Partnership, with other senior leaders also exiting in recent months as the firm seeks to reshape its leadership amid efforts to revive performance and enhance competitiveness.
Her exit follows earlier departures of other senior executives, including the chief customer director, who recently confirmed her own departure for a new role outside the company after three years.
John Lewis said it would not comment further on the leadership change. Miles’s departure adds to a broader context of strategic evolution at the historic British retailer as it continues to respond to shifting consumer demand and a challenging high-street environment.
