
The Ministry of Textiles, in collaboration with the Government of Assam, will organise the National Textiles Ministers’ Conference on 8th-9th January 2026, in Guwahati. The conference will be held under the theme “India’s Textiles: Weaving Growth, Heritage & Innovation.”
The two-day event is expected to bring together Union and State Ministers of Textiles, along with senior officials from the Union and State Governments, to deliberate on a coordinated national strategy to position India as a global textile manufacturing hub. The discussions are aligned with the national objective of building a US $ 350 billion textile industry and achieving US $ 100 billion in textile exports by 2030.
The inaugural session on 8th January 2026, will be attended by Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita, along with other senior dignitaries.
Conference sessions will focus on key areas such as infrastructure and investment, expanding exports, improving competitiveness, raw materials and fibres, and emerging segments including technical textiles and research and development. The agenda will also include discussions on revitalising traditional textiles, with a particular emphasis on handlooms and handicrafts and their integration into modern markets.
Ministers and officials from states and Union Territories across the country are expected to participate, sharing best practices, challenges and policy recommendations aimed at strengthening the textile value chain across regions and districts.
