Spanish fashion giant Mango has welcomed former H&M Group CEO Helena Helmersson onto its board of directors as an independent board member, marking its dedication to strengthening global leadership and corporate governance. The appointment is one of the most important components of Mango’s ambitious 4E Strategic Plan, with a focus on professionalising executives and bringing the company into line with best international practices.
Brand’s CEO and chairman, Toni Ruiz said that Helena’s unmatched experience, international viewpoint, and forward-thinking leadership will be a perfect fit for Mango. He added that her vision will be incredibly valuable as they continue to grow and drive the business globally.
Helmersson, who led H&M as CEO from 2020 to 2024, brings over two decades of international experience in fashion, with expertise spanning sustainability, global operations, and supply chain management. She currently chairs the board of textile innovation company Circulose and also holds board positions at Swiss-based On Holding AG and Swedish impact-tech firm Quizrr.
Touting excitement about the new role, Helmersson stated that she’s excited to be part of Mango at this vibrant moment in its history. She added that the vision for expansion, innovation in the products, and leadership in sustainability is compelling, and she is looking forward to making her contributions towards its ongoing development.
Her hiring follows a wider leadership overhaul at Mango. Over the past few weeks, the retailer promoted Eva Gallego to lead its women’s unit, after the departure of veteran executive Elena Carasso. The creation of Gallego’s new position is viewed by some as key to reinforcing Mango’s foundation product line. On the men’s side, change also came, with Josep Estol replacing Jonathan Andic, who left to concentrate on family business ventures.
Mango’s new board now consists of chairman and CEO Toni Ruiz, vice chairman Jonathan Andic, and executive directors Margarita Salvans and Daniel López. Independent directors are Helmersson, Jordi Canals, Jorge Lucaya, Jordi Constans, Marc Puig, and Manel Adell, with Eugenia Jover as board secretary.
Started in 1984 by Isak Andic, Mango has expanded to have over 120 markets with more than 2,800 stores across the world. In 2024, it posted revenues of US $3.90 billion, increasing 7.6% year on year. Its 2024–2026 roadmap is to achieve revenue of US $ 4.67 billion and 500 new store openings by the end of the cycle.
