Shima Seiki MFG., LTD., based in Japan, a leader in flat knitting technology, has released SDS KnitPaint-Online, a stand-alone version of its successful KnitPaint software. This will open up the benefits of modern knit programming to designers and manufacturers around the globe and create a more flexible workflow with the software’s portability.
SDS KnitPaint was previously only available as part of the company’s SDS-ONE APEX all-in-one design system; however, the newly released SDS KnitPaint Online retains the same solid functionality as the original KnitPaint, but all in a much more portable form. In addition, SDS KnitPaint Online contains additional features for design and planning and is now available for installation on desktops or laptops to allow advanced creative work to happen effectively at home, in the office, or while travelling.
KnitPaint combines a style selection process and dimension input, then generates stitch data automatically. As well, KnitPaint incorporates knitting expertise for specific styles to enhance accuracy and efficiency. Further features include the Knitting Viewer with 3D animations that illustrate needle movements and the mechanical behaviour of yarn, and the Knitting Assist that identifies errors and areas of complexity early in the design process, leading to much-reduced machine adjustment time for manufacturing.
Furthermore, the software provides Virtual Knit, a simulation element that shows what the final product will look like based on the programming data, and Design for SDS KnitPaint-Online, a module that supports, with a rich design tool, the creation of the programming data.
Shima Seiki has also released a specific version—SDS KnitPaint-Online Collar—for its N.SSR072 collar knitting machine. Both versions provide a complete and intuitive design process, giving users everything they need to easily translate their idea into knitting—when and where they please.
