
The State Government will offer a health insurance program for weavers, according to S. Savita, Handlooms and Textiles Minister. With the Centre’s help, the Government will start taking steps to increase the sales of handloom goods, she continued.
Savita said the state Government has been working to improve the welfare and status of handloom weavers while interacting with the weavers of primary handloom weavers’ cooperative organisations on handloom weavers-related concerns.
Handlooms and power looms receive 200 and 500 units of free power from the Government, respectively. She stated that the Government has been educating weavers in new designs and that exhibitions are being held throughout the state to enhance the sale of their goods.
She added that in order to help weavers, the Government has implemented a new textile policy and is creating mini and mega clusters. Additionally, approximately 92,724 weavers over 50 receive a pension of Rs 4,000. Before the Dasara celebration, Savita added, the Government will hold elections for the cooperative societies of weavers.
