US asset manager Davidson Kempner, owner of Britain’s Oak Furnitureland, is in discussions with British fashion retailer Superdry co-founder Julian Dunkerton about backing an offer for the clothing company, said a Sky News report, without citing a source.
The report also stated that there is no assurance that Davidson Kempner and Dunkerton will sign a deal at this time because the talks are just at an early stage.
Both Davidson Kempner and Superdry declined to comment.
According to a report by Sky News earlier this month, Dunkerton, the company’s CEO and largest shareholder, was reportedly in discussions with RCapital and Gordon Brothers regarding a proposal to take the struggling store private.
Superdry has faced financial difficulties in addition to low demand for its clothes and jackets. It stated in January that, following a challenging Christmas quarter in which group sales dropped 13.7 per cent, it does not see an improvement in market conditions anytime soon.
