US retail giant Walmart collaborates with Wing, a drone delivery service owned by Alphabet, to introduce drone delivery options at two stores in the Dallas area in the coming months. This expansion builds upon Walmart’s existing network of 11 hubs in Texas.
Prathibha Rajashekhar, SVP of Innovation & Automation at Walmart US, shared, “Two years ago, we embarked on a mission to transform drone delivery into a convenient reality for our customers. During this time, we have extended our drone delivery service to cover seven states and 36 stores, successfully completing over 10,000 safe deliveries.”
Rajashekhar continues, “We are now accelerating this progress by partnering with Wing, a drone delivery provider powered by Alphabet, Google’s parent company.
She adds “Our collaboration with Wing directly aligns with our commitment to finding innovative and environmentally friendly last-mile delivery solutions to fulfill our customers’ requests promptly.
“With drones capable of flying beyond the visual line of sight, we can provide on-demand delivery to customers residing within an approximately six-mile radius of the participating stores,” she adds.
This represents an exciting advancement for the customers, offering them even greater access to a convenient, innovative, and, most importantly, incredibly fast means of obtaining the items they require. The future of drone delivery looks promising, with endless possibilities.
