H1 ’23 (January-June period) has not been a positive one for the Chinese apparel and textile export industry.
As per official statistics released by the General Administration of Customs, China (GACC), the country’s apparel exports declined by 6 per cent to US $ 74.98 billion in H1 ’23 as compared to US $ 79.68 billion in the same period of 2022.
The decline can majorly be attributed to the sluggish US market – the top export destination for China – that saw it imports from China falling down by over 30 per cent in Jan.-May ’23 period.
Particularly in June ’23, China clocked US $ 15.42 billion from its apparel exports, as compared to US $ 13.30 billion in May ’23, giving a signal of recovery in the subsequent months.
As far as textile export is concerned, China shipped US $ 67.69 billion worth of yarns, fabrics and other textile products in H1 ’23, noting significant decline of 11 per cent over H1 ’22.
