Selfridges, a renowned department store in London, is launching its first-ever swap shop in partnership with LOANHOOD, a marketplace and service for renting out clothing. Customers can exchange their fashionable items for previously owned treasures at the upcoming event.
The project, which will be in effect from 10th to 30th July, aims to encourage circular fashion and extend the life of unsold clothing.
Selfridges and LOANHOOD are both aware of how many customers have items stashed in the back of their closets that they never wear. This new initiative makes sure that each item of clothing is going to a person who can use it rather than ending up in a landfill.
The initiative, which comes under Selfridges’ ‘Worn Again,’ concept, is part of Selfridges’ season of secondhand and circular shopping events. Its goal is to extend the life of clothing.
The company will also host a series of ‘Thursday Lates’ evening swap shop times that will include workshops with an upcycler, beverages, shopping, and a DJ. The activities’ whole proceeds will be given to Oxfam.
