In order to incorporate its yarn-dyeing technology into the denim fabric production line of the luxury firm responsible for brands like Gucci, Saint Laurent, and others, Sonovia, the Israeli green-tech company and French fashion behemoth Kering have reached an agreement.
The market for indigo dye used in the denim industry is estimated at US $ 1.5 billion annually.
A typical 20-bath water treatment method is needed in the pre- and post-treatment stages of indigo dyeing, including hydrosulfite treatment.
Utilising ultrasound, Sonovia’s chemical-free indigo yarn dyeing technology reduces dye baths by over 80% while drastically reducing manufacturing pollution. As a result, there is a significant reduction in energy use, chemical waste, and water usage.
Sonovia’s technology is now available to a wide range of conventional and international textile retailers thanks to the plug-and-play module’s simple implementation on any assembly line.
In order to develop and scale up the denim technology, Sonovia has been working with the Italian company PureDenim, which is a partner in the arrangement with Kering.
The partnership with Kering, according to Sonovia’s Chief Business Officer Roy Hirsch, represents a big step forward for the company and affirms that the indigo dyeing process it has created will dominate this market in the future. The partnership will enhance sustainability in the fashion sector and get the company closer to being recognised as a pioneer of a revolution in the textile industry.
