Alleging that factory owners sometimes deprive apparel workers by keeping them under-graded, rights groups in Bangladesh have sought abolition of two grades from the existing seven-grade wage structure for Bangladesh’s readymade garment workers.
This is as per media reports, which further added that the existing five grades out of the seven, accommodate all categories of operators — namely senior operator, assistant operator, general operator, junior operator and operator according to the wage structure.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, President of IndustriAll Bangladesh Council (IBC) Amirul Haque Amin claimed that there are five grades for the post of operators, even as he reportedly alleged factory owners keep workers under-graded despite their long years of work experience, while also adding that keeping so many grades for operators is nothing but a strategy of depriving the workers, even as he underlined, there should be three grades of operators based on their skills – general, skilled and highly skilled.
