KappAhl denim is indeed more sustainable now!
The launch of its new autumn collections distinctly shows KappAhl’s success in producing 100 per cent of its denim in more sustainable fabrics.
More sustainable denim has been a part of KappAhl’s long-term Responsible Fashion strategy, which is based on having a completely sustainable product range.
All of the new autumn collections have been made from the more sustainable denim fabrics using production processes that need significantly less water, energy and chemicals.
This also helped KappAhl achieve its target of manufacturing all its denim in more sustainable fabrics and using more sustainable manufacturing processes by 2020.
That’s a key milestone for KappAhl!
Another milestone set by the company for 2020 is to ensure that the cotton it uses is more sustainably sourced.
And KappAhl knows it’s going to be more challenging as cotton production involves high consumption of water, fertilisers and pesticides. Switching to organic farming is one such practice that KappAhl considers to handle this issue, among others.
But, KappAhl is already there! It is important to note that the cotton used in KappAhl’s denim today is in line with the BCI’s principles or organically grown. Moreover, half the water, 30 percent less energy and far fewer chemicals are used in the washing processes compared with conventional denim.
Expressing delight, Fredrika Klarén, Head of Sustainability, KappAhl, said “It is fantastic to know that we are meeting the high bar that we have set for KappAhl and that our Responsible Fashion sustainability strategy is making a difference. Making the production of denim more sustainable will lead to significant resource savings and is a cornerstone to building a more sustainable wardrobe.”
The fashion chain is also using the Environmental Impact Measuring (EIM) tool, based on a new technology developed by Jeanologia, to achieve and measure improvements.
