The 26th technology extravaganza – Garment Technology Expo (GTE) presented a new set of opportunities and erudition to the visitors and exhibitors on Day 2. The major highlight of the second day was ‘Apparel 4.0’ conference and the presence of global industry experts that made it even more worth attending.
The first-ever conference that took place at the ongoing garment technology exhibition, being held at NSIC Complex, (Okhla), New Delhi, India, elucidated the importance of ‘Industry 4.0’ concept and the implementation challenges to the Indian apparel industry. The list of speakers included the likes of Dr. Mike Fralix, President and CEO [TC]2, Dr. Prabir Jana, NIFT Delhi, Dietrich Eickhoff, CEO & Chairman, Dürkopp Adler, Samath Fernando, CIO, Hirdaramani Group of Companies, Sri Lanka. These experts also highlighted the perspectives of the technology providers and the users on the ‘Industry 4.0’ concept.
Further, on Day 2, Dr. Rajesh Bheda, RBC, conducted a panel discussion with industry stalwarts like H K L Magu, AEPC (Apparel Export Promotion Council) Chairman, Dr. Darlie Koshy, Director General, ATDC (Apparel Training and Design Centre), J D Giri of Shahi Exports, R C Kesar of OGTC, Gunish Jain of Royal Datamatics and Vinod Aiyer of Fortuna Colours.
At the forum, RC Kesar pointed out, “The Indian manufacturers appreciate the technology but wait for the right time to implement the technology. If we keep on waiting for the ‘right time’, the time will never come when we are (actually) ready for Industry 4.0.”
While Day 2 at GTE 2018 was dominated by ‘4.0’, another event that came under the spotlight was the launch ceremony of the book on ‘Industrial Engineering (IE) in Apparel Manufacturing’ by Dr. Prabir Jana. The launch event took place at Apparel Resources booth at the expo. Various industry bigwigs attended the ceremony. The book touches the key aspects of IE which usually takes the backseat on the shopfloor.
Furthermore, the second day of the trade fair was full of action as top players like Sudhir Dhingra, CMD of Orient Craft, Manoj Singh, Head of Business Development Asia, Impactt Global Solutions, Delhi and many other medium-level exporters explored the innovations in garment technology. The technical teams of Shahi Exports, Arvind Ltd., Decathlon, Paramount Products, TCNS, Mangla Apparels India, Global Mode and Accessories were also seen exploring different types of technologies at the exhibition.
