In the past year, a definite trend of mixed gender catwalks has increasingly become popular and the latest fashion brand to appease the same is Moncler. The Italian apparel manufacturer and lifestyle brand has announced its decision to opt for a co-ed presentation at the upcoming fashion week in 2018.
Interestingly, Moncler is also scheduled to be the first label to open Milan Fashion Week on February 20th at 7 pm, a platform that the brand will also be used to unveil “the Moncler Genius Building, the material and symbolic fulcrum of the brand’s new approach”.
The move comes after the label announced its decision to discontinue its luxury ready-to-wear (RTW) lines Gamme Bleu and Gamme Rouge, which were headed by designers Thom Browne and Giambattista Valli, respectively.
On choosing Milan as their latest platform to present their collections, the brand clarified, stating, “It is a significant and strategic decision, made possible by the partnership with the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. Its aim is to mark a starting point but also to underscore the pivotal nature of Milan within the system, as a hub of innovation and design.”
Big players such as J.W. Anderson, Anya Hindmarch, Balenciaga, Salvatore Ferragamo, Coach, Vivienne Westwood and Calvin Klein are other brands to have opted for combining their menswear and womenswear presentations in the past year, owing to the strategy’s logistical and financial advantages.
