
US online retail giant, Amazon Inc, is opening three more Fulfilment Centres (FCs) in Oregon, US to increase it stocking capacity.
The e-commerce retailer will set up the warehouse in Portland. It will hire over 1,000 people for the upcoming FC. Apart from the existing sortation centre in Hillsboro and Prime Now hub in Portland, Amazon has announced to set up an FC in Troutdale and Salem as well.
The three upcoming FCs are expected to be operational by the year 2018. The centres will collectively create over 3,500 full-time job opportunities for the people in the state.
Amazon is establishing warehouses to fuel its delivery speed, expand inventory selection, and provide great Prime membership benefits to its customers, said Sanjay Shah, Amazon’s Vice President of North America Customer Fulfilment in a statement issued by the company.
Associates to be hired for the Portland, Salem and Troutdale centres will be entrusted with the responsibilities of pick, pack and ship services for larger customer items, such as sports equipment, pet food, etc.
“Amazon’s plan to establish three fulfilment centres in Oregon in three months will expand its robust presence in the state,” said Business Oregon Director Chris Harder.
Officials deployed at the Port of Portland are excited to work with Amazon and termed opening of the new fulfilment centre in the area a good signal for Oregon’s economic growth.
Amazon has been working extensively globally to enhance its reach and better serve its customers. It’s not only the home country, the e-commerce giant is also eyeing to grab opportunities in India and other nations as well.
The company made a staggering investment of US $ 252 (approx.) million in its Indian arm this July and is further spending money to expand its reach there.
