
Central Government of India is promoting textile and apparel industry in north-east states of the country. Adding more to this and in the series of implementation of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, the first Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) in the entire North Eastern states was recently inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal in Guwahati. The Centre, made by Orion Edutech, will give training to the unemployed youth in 13 job roles and apparel (sector) is one of them. It is an initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and National Skill Development Corporation.
Dr. Roopak Vasishtha, CEO, Apparel, Made-Ups and Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC), who was the one of the guests of honour at the event, told Apparel Resources, “The Centre has good infrastructural facilities for apparel industry-related training as there are more than 50 specialized industrial machines.” The Centre is spread over 12,000 square feet and the target is to provide free training and employment to at least 10,000 people in next three years in various verticals like apparel manufacturing, hospitality, retail, etc.

On the occasion, Sonowal said, “One of the key objectives of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Yojana is to make India unique and great, and transform the country into global skill capital of the world. We want to export human-resources by harnessing our youth forces by the right mix of dedication and sincerity with science and technology. We will make North East as an organic hub of the Region and we will set up small scale industries in the state in a move to tap the possibilities, potentialities and prosperities of Assam in sync with the nature.”
