Marimekko, a Finnish design company known for its original prints and colours, has installed a new washing machine worth around a million euros at its printing factory in Helsinki. The new machine will improve energy efficiency of the printing process and decrease the usage of detergents, the company claims.
“Being the only textile printing production in Finland benefits us with an international competitive advantage that gives us flexibility and strengthens our ability to innovate. Investing in a new washing machine enables us to develop the operations of our printing factory even further,” avers Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko, President and CEO, Marimekko.

All of Marimekko’s fabrics are printed in the company’s own printing factory in Helsinki. Annually approximately a million metre of fabric is printed in the factory. It may be noted here that Marimekko’s production facility is the only industrial scale textile printing factory in Finland.
Founded in 1951, Marimekko’s portfolio includes high-quality clothing, bags and accessories as well as home décor items. With presence in over 40 countries, company’s net sales stood at Euro 96 million in last fiscal year.
