BLK DNM Society is a fashion venture that uses blockchain-based hardware and software in its apparel, introduced by the Swedish-American fashion brand BLK DNM. Every item is given a unique identifier, which promotes responsible behaviour and gives owners brand leverage.
Every piece of clothing in the tangible and digital realms is given a unique and traceable identify by the BLK DNM Society. The business also rewards its customers for supporting the brand and acting ethically.
Digital garment IDs are used to verify clothing, keep track of its history, and prevent fraud. The BLK DNM Society wants to create a community of brand owners with voting rights in order to decentralise fashion stewardship. At the BLK DNM FW show in Paris, the technology’s incorporation will be unveiled, with a preliminary emphasis on leather items.
The technology uses microchips called ‘digital garment IDs’ to authenticate clothing, stop the production of knockoffs, encourage responsible behaviour like thorough clothing maintenance, and record the unique history of each individual piece of clothing.
The digital garment ID enables the construction of a ‘digital reflection’ of the actual garment in the virtual environment. The role and history of the garment within the BLK DNM Society are documented in this digital rendering. The use of the virtual reflection in metaverses is possible, especially with younger users.
Henrik Hjelte, CEO and Co-founder of ChromaWay, the blockchain innovator behind the technology, describes the initiative as futuristic and groundbreaking for the fashion industry.
Toni Collin, CEO of BLK DNM, emphasises the brand’s philosophy of community and longevity, designing clothing to be treasured and passed down through generations as a response to irresponsible fast fashion.
