For having a definite edge in the global business of apparel manufacturing, Bangladesh-based woven bottoms and outerwear manufacturer Univogue has deployed Fast React’s capacity planning and management tool, Evolve. Established in the 70’s, Univogue’s 70 per cent capacity is dedicated to Haggar while the rest 30 per cent caters to Ralph Lauren, Chaps, JCPenney, H&M, Wrangler, Walmart, Sears, Target, Kmart, Kohls and Amerex. With a present setup of 1000+ sewing machines, Univogue has an annual turnover of more than US $ 50 million.
Previously, Univogue had been relying on spreadsheets for the critical aspects of planning, scheduling and controlling production and procurement related activities. By deploying Evolve, Fast React has helped the company eliminate poor visibility over the key constraints of capacity, sampling and sample approvals, material availability and work in progress. The installation has also enabled effective order tracking and identification of possible delays that might incur excess costs. Further, as Evolve analyses company’s historic data and transactional accuracy, key operational areas that affect the immediate and future ability of the business to fulfil its delivery commitments will be identified. Univogue is now looking to expand its manufacturing set-up by adding an additional 20 production lines so that they can produce approximately 9.6 million units a year.
Optimistic about the deployment and anticipated results, Jagath Priyantha, Director, Univogue elaborates, “Given the complex nature of our products we had to find a solution that would work alongside our other business systems such as HR and Finance. We will also be able to analyze our past performance through the system and by understanding what available capacity we have, we feel that Evolve could help us to increase productivity by 5 per cent.” Supplemented by the software, the company has now set its sight at a robust streamlined production process that arrests last minute fire-fighting, quality and efficiency losses and delayed deliveries.
