It is no surprise that ‘do or die’ has become the new mantra for growth in garment industry today… In fact, the textile industry has been ‘ignored’ enough and Government officials, appointed to interact with the industry, do not understand the nature of the industry. How can the Government support an industry that is neither a priority industry nor manned by people who understand and appreciate the importance of the industry. In spite of total ‘ignorance’ by the Government, the industry, on its own, is taking interesting initiatives.

A Fairtrade School is at the heart of the global movement for change… To empower and educate the next generation of cotton farmers and garment factory workers about sustainability, Vidyashilp Academy (VSA), Bangalore has become India’s first Fairtrade School, making students understand the depth of issues like fair wages, transparency, ethical business, sustainability… The school sources Fairtrade certified uniforms and promotes sustainable initiatives too.
